BAILEY’S 31 FOOT TABLE:
A 200-YEAR-OLD LEGACY
At Tin Roof Kitchen & Home, we’re always up for a challenge—and when Brian Bailey called us, he brought us a big one (LITERALLY!). He needed a table for his incredible trophy room in Roswell, New Mexico — a space big enough to host family dinners, business meetings, and probably a small town reunion. The result? A 31-FOOT-LONG PECAN SLAB TABLE that’s now the center peice of his incredible space.
A TABLE WITH HISTORY
This isn’t your average dining table — it’s a piece of living history! The pecan slabs for this project came from one of our cherished James Wales Jones logs, a tree that’s been around since 1824. (Yep, this tree was growing before Texas was even a state!) Here’s how the historic slabs came to life:
2021:
The log was carefully sawn, and the slabs began their two-year air-drying process to ensure they’d be perfectly stable.
2022:
We collaborated with Brian on designs and renderings to capture his vision.
2023:
The slabs were kiln-dried to finish stabilizing them. Then came the fun part: flattening, sanding, and perfecting every detail.
AUGUST 2024:
After loading up this beast of a table, we headed to Roswell to install it in its forever home.
HOW WE MADE IT HAPPEN
Creating a table of this magnitude was no small feat.
Two pecan slabs from the same historic log were meticulously joined to create a seamless surface with matching edges.
A steel subframe was added to support the length and weight, keeping the look clean and elegant.
Every inch of the 31 foot table was sanded, filled, and finished to highlight the wood’s natural beauty.
And because we love going the extra mile, we made a custom coffee table book for Brian and his family, sharing the tree’s special history and the journey behind this one-of-a-kind table.
A TROPHY ROOM LIKE NO OTHER
This table found its home in one of the most jaw-dropping spaces we’ve ever seen. Brian’s trophy room, designed by Prairie Mountain Wildlife Studios, is something out of a dream. With elk mounts, rustic details, and now a show-stopping table that ties it all together, it’s truly a space to behold.
Working with Brian and his wife, Michelle, was a blast. They had a clear vision of what they wanted, but they also gave us the freedom to bring that vision to life, which made the whole process feel more like a fun collaboration than a job.
LET’S BUILD SOMETHING BIG
This project was more than just about building a table. It was about creating something that brings people together and will stand the test of time (or at least a few more centuries).
If you’ve got a big vision — or even a small one that matters to you — we’d love to help bring it to life. Reach out to us at Tin Roof Kitchen & Home, and let’s make something truly unforgettable together.
