Inside Tin Roof:
The Heart of Our Sawmill Operations
At Tin Roof Kitchen and Home, every piece of furniture starts with a story rooted deep in Texas soil. But before the beautiful custom tables, charming charcuterie boards, and elegant decor pieces reach your home, they embark on a fascinating journey through our sawmills. This is where raw, locally sourced logs are transformed into lasting works of art.
Join us for a behind-the-scenes tour and discover how our sawmills turn rugged timber into the quality pieces that define our brand.
The Powerhouses: Our Two Sawmills
The journey from tree to table begins with the powerhouse machinery that fuels our craftsmanship. At the heart of Tin Roof's operations are two state-of-the-art sawmills, each with its own unique capabilities. These machines are more than just equipment—they are the artists that shape our vision into reality.
Woodmizer LT50 Bandsaw: Speed and Precision in Every Cut
The Woodmizer LT50 is the workhorse of our operation. This hydraulic bandsaw is packed with high-production features, allowing us to process logs quickly and accurately. With the Accuset2 Setworks system, we can control board thickness down to a fraction of an inch, ensuring each cut is perfect.
What really sets the LT50 apart is its advanced bandsaw blade, designed for faster cutting with minimal waste. The small kerf (the wood lost to the blade's cut) makes this saw ideal for producing lumber used in detailed projects like flooring and ceiling tongue-and-groove boards. And with the ability to handle logs up to 36 inches in diameter and 21 feet in length, the LT50 is versatile enough for everything from custom furniture to large structural beams. Thanks to features like the bi-directional chain log turner and auto board return arm, we're able to process logs faster while maintaining the high standards of craftsmanship that define our products.

Lucas Slabbing Mill:
Creating Big, Beautiful Slabs
Next up is the Lucas Slabbing Mill—the mill that brings out the full character of Texas timber. Specializing in large slabs, the Lucas Mill is perfect for projects that demand wide, natural-edged pieces like dining tables and countertops.
With a cutting capacity of up to 6 feet 4 inches in width, this sawmill allows us to create those stunning, wide slabs that are ideal for making statement pieces. If you’ve ever marveled at a custom-made, massive slab table at Tin Roof, chances are it started its journey here.

From Log to Product: The Journey at Tin Roof
After the sawmills work their magic, the timber is ready for the next stage of its journey. The freshly cut slabs and boards move to our custom built kilns, where they undergo a controlled drying process. The drying process can take anywhere from two weeks to several months, depending on the thickness of the wood and its initial moisture content, but it’s essential for the durability and quality of the final product.
Once dried, each piece is meticulously inspected, sanded, and treated to highlight its natural beauty and character. Whether it's a charming charcuterie board, a custom dining table, or a grand conference room table, every item is crafted with care, patience, and a dedication to quality.
Using Your Own Trees: The Ultimate Keepsake
One of the things that sets Tin Roof apart is our ability to turn your own trees into cherished keepsakes. Have a beloved tree on your property that holds special memories? We can mill that tree into custom furniture or decor that preserves its legacy. From sentimental family trees to historic timber, we transform your personal timber into beautiful, lasting pieces that carry a piece of your story.
Our Stockpile: A Selection of Texas Timber
Not every project requires your own tree. We maintain a vast stockpile of local wood species, including pecan, oak, sycamore, mesquite, and more. Each type of wood offers its own unique characteristics and stories, allowing us to provide a wide range of options for your custom projects. Whether you’re drawn to the rich hues of mesquite or the distinctive grain of pecan, our selection ensures we have the perfect material for your needs.
Choosing Tin Roof: Choosing True Texas Craftsmanship
At Tin Roof Kitchen and Home, we take pride in overseeing every part of the process—from milling raw logs to expertly drying and crafting the finished piece. When you choose Tin Roof, you're not just getting furniture—you’re bringing home a piece of Texas, shaped by hands dedicated to quality and tradition.
