ROEMISCH FAMILY DREAM HOME:

BRINGING BEAMS TO LIFE

Howdy, friends! We had the privilege of working with the Roemisch family to bring their country dream home to life out in Eddy, Texas. They’d already sourced some beautiful Douglas Fir beams from Canada, and Tin Roof Kitchen & Home was called in to take those and create something that truly matched their vision.

THE STAIRCASE: BUILT TO LAST AND TURN HEADS

First up was the staircase. We’re talking heavy-duty Douglas Fir posts, stringers, treads, and landing—all solid, thick wood that feels as sturdy as it looks. Our hardworking teamadded twisted metal balusters to give it a unique touch, and the finished product leads to a bridge that crosses the main living area and heads to the upstairs bedrooms. We laid wood flooring on that bridge to keep the flow consistent and tie everything together.

HAMMER BEAMS: STRENGTH AND STYLE IN THE GREAT ROOM

The great room is where the heart of this home truly stands out. The ceiling peaks at almost 30 feet, and we installed massive hammer-style beams that required extra support up top. Some of the beams are solid, and others are box beams to reduce the weight, but from the ground, you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. Those beams are an eye-catcher for sure, giving the whole room a grand, yet warm and inviting feel.

CARRYING THE BEAM AESTHETIC THROUGHOUT THE HOME

The beauty of those Douglas Fir beams didn’t stop at the great room. We carried that same rustic charm into the kitchen and bedrooms, making sure those large beams grabbed your attention just as much as they did in the main living space. The beams in these rooms really tie the whole house together, creating that seamless, warm, country feel.

SHOWER ENTRANCE: A GRAND WELCOME

Now, let me tell you about the shower entry—it’s no ordinary doorway. We crafted agrand entrance with hefty, solid Douglas Fir beams that were sandblasted, stained, and finished with an outdoor sealer for water resistance. You step into that shower, and it’s like walking into a spa that’s been built to last a lifetime.

FINE DETAILS: WINDOWS, TRIM, AND A MESQUITE VANITY

We also had the pleasure of trimming out a large window wall, adding blocking and matching everything to the beams and staircase for that cohesive look. There’s something about wood trim that just makes a home feel complete, don’t you think?

Speaking of wood, we crafted a custom mesquite wood vanity for the bathroom, complete with a pocket for a hammered copper sink and some rustic chain accents. This vanity is a piece of art in itself—functional, beautiful, and loaded with character. It’s these kinds of details that make each piece we create at Tin Roof Kitchen & Home truly one-of-a-kind.

FIREPLACE MANTLE: STRONG AND STYLISH

For the fireplace, we installed a cedar mantle using a heavy-duty steel bracket we custom-built to hold that weight. This isn’t just a shelf; it’s a statement piece, and it ties in perfectly with the rest of the home’s rustic design.

THE FINAL TOUCH: MAKING THE BEAMS GO FURTHER

One thing we pride ourselves on here at Tin Roof is making the most of the materials we work with. The customer had sourced those Douglas Fir beams, so we kiln-dried and debugged the wood to make sure it was perfect for Texas living. We even re-sawed some of the beams to stretch the lumber and complete the additional projects they had in mind. No waste, just smart, efficient craftsmanship.

WHAT’S NEXT?

We’re waiting on the rest of the house to be finished before we can get some final photos, but this project has been a blast from start to finish. Jason and the Tin Roof crew spent a good two to three months out there, and every step of the way, it was clear we were building something special. Stay tuned for more updates once the house is complete!
