THE HEART AND IMPACT OF CHOOSING HANDMADE FURNITURE

Howdy, y’all. Kurt here from Tin Roof. After that big snowstorm we just had here in south Texas, I’ve been thinking a lot about the strength of our community and the importance of supporting each other — especially local businesses.

Shopping locally isn’t just about convenience or trends. It’s about keeping our communities strong, valuing sustainability, and getting something truly unique. Today, I want to share why choosing handmade, local furniture like ours isn’t just a purchase — it’s a commitment to something bigger.

SUSTAINABILITY: MAKING THE MOST OF WHAT NATURE PROVIDES

At Tin Roof, every piece of wood has a story, and we make sure it’s one worth telling. All of the logs we use come from trees that were already being removed—whether it’s from storm damage, property clearing, or concerns about safety.

For instance, when a pipeline clears land or a homeowner needs to take down a tree threatening their house, we step in to give those logs a new purpose. Without us, most of this wood would have been burned or destroyed. Instead, it’s transformed into heirloom-quality furniture and cutting boards that keep the beauty of these trees alive.

One special project we’re working on is our Historic Tree Collection. The trees in this collection date back almost 200 years to the days of Stephen F. Austin and his famed ‘Old Three Hundred.’ When the trees naturally fell, we saw it as a chance to honor their history. We even carbon-dated the logs to confirm their place in history!

This project shows the care, thought, and sustainable practices we put into every piece that we make. We’re proud to preserve a piece of Texas history and help it find a new home with you.

SUPPORTING THE COMMUNITY: A LEGACY OF GIVING BACK

At Tin Roof, we’re proud to give back to Wharton County in every way we can.

When you shop local, you’re investing in more than just a product—you’re investing in your community.

FUNDRAISERS & BENEFITS:

We’ve donated cutting boards for countless fundraisers and local events, knowing that a little handmade love can go a long way in supporting organizations in need.

FAITHFUL GIVING:

When you purchase one of our handmade epoxy crosses, we give a percentage of that sale back to local churches, adding a layer of meaning to every piece.

LOCAL LUMBER ACCESS:

We keep a stockpile of unique, high-quality lumber for the community. Whether you’re looking for something specific or need custom sawing, we have the means to provide what you can’t find elsewhere.

Our pecan wood, in particular, is a local treasure! Wharton County’s pecan trees produce wood with richer colors and unique grain patterns you simply won’t find anywhere else. That’s something special to be proud of when you buy from us.

WHY LOCAL MATTERS

When you choose to buy local furniture, you’re doing more than decorating your home—you’re making a statement. You’re saying yes to sustainability, yes to supporting your community, and yes to owning a piece of craftsmanship that’s as unique as your story.

At Tin Roof, every cutting board, table, and chair is made with heart, hands, and heritage. We’re grateful to be part of a community that values quality over convenience and tradition over trends.

So, next time you’re considering a new piece of furniture or unique gift, think local. Think handmade. And remember, when you choose Tin Roof, you’re choosing TEXAS WOOD. TEXAS MADE.
